This #GivingTuesday, we have an amazing opportunity that will have a huge impact for homeless animals! The NY Giants are generously matching every donation — dollar for dollar — up to $15,000!
It's been another difficult year with lots of local people surrendering their pets and overcrowded shelters pleading for help.
Just recently, someone called to surrender 5 little dogs but when they arrived at our kennel, they brought us 8 dogs instead. After going home, they returned with two more who severely matted for a total of 10 terribly neglected dogs who were used for breeding. The stench coming from these dogs was absolutely horrific, and they all needed extensive grooming and veterinary care. Apple, shown above, was one of the most matted ones; he could barely walk or move, and when he pooped, it had no where to go except on his fur which was covered with urine and caked-on feces. A huge thank-you to Sam and her team at Punk Puppy Salon in Mamaroneck who dedicated their entire day off to grooming these dogs. The transformation was remarkable — they emerged looking, smelling, and feeling so much better, and their sweet, loveable, happy personalities came shining through! After being vetted, we are thrilled to report that all but 2 baby puppies, who are too young for adoption, have found loving homes or have pending adoptions.
Back in July, we received a call about a frightened kitten in Yonkers who was hiding in a car engine after being scared off by fireworks. His paws were burned from the heat, and he was dehydrated and very underweight. We took him right to the vet where received fluids, antibiotics and treatment for his paws. After he recovered and was fully vetted, his foster family realized they could not part with him and Moose became a permanent family member ... or as we lovingly call it, a foster fail.
These are just two examples of the many life-saving calls we respond to on a daily basis. More than half of the animals we rescued this year came from our very own community — and as we know, veterinary costs in New York are sky high, even with our rescue discount. Since our humble beginnings, we have remained a mostly volunteer organization, which means your gift today has a direct impact on hurting cats and dogs, and truly changes lives. Every donation, in any amount, makes a real difference and will help us reach our goal of $15,000 to save more desperate animals like these.
Right now, your gift will be matched for DOUBLE THE IMPACT: $50=$100 ... $100=$200 ... $250=$500! If we are fortunate enough to exceed our goal, please know that your generosity will help even more sick, neglected and injured cats and dogs. Thank you for your compassionate generosity and for spreading the word — and a special thanks to our amazing and generous friends at the NY Giants for their support.
